Once upon a time there was a lonely sock. She was a pretty, long, red kneesock and for months had been stuck in the cupboard with the other odd
socks. They only got out briefly once a week on laundry day to see if they could be matched to any of the socks that were newly unmatched. They were a quiet
group, all wishing to be part of a pair again. In pairs, they were constantly on the go, seeing so many places. Sometimes one of them was rejoined with their
partner but most just...

did do some research and tried to get things right, but I realize I'm no expert. This is definitely fiction, and hopefully fun.

This story doesn't have a fantasy element, as so many of my stories do, but is simply my attempt at a historical romance. Unlike many such romances, I
chose older characters as my hero and heroine. As with any of my stories, I make no claim to historical accuracy. It is definitely a work of fiction. :-)

This story of two childhood friends, who reunite and fall in love as adults, was originally written as a Valentine story. I added a character, a bit out of the
ordinary, who I liked so much, she got her own story in a sequel called The Guardians. There are amongst my favourites ... though I have to admit, I do usually
make my characters people that I really like. :-)

When I first showed this story to some friends, a few years back, I was asked to make a floor plan of the cabin at the centre of the story. So, I did Since
I'm not an architect or builder I've no idea if this is even possible but I'd hope so as I'd love to own such a cabin! It is done on a scale of
8 pixels to the foot. Although I didn't take into consideration the thickness of walls and some other things, I did try for appropriate sizes for doors,

This was my first attempt to write a story. I decided on trying time-travel. The historical details may not be very accurate, but I tried not to be too
inaccurate. When I finished, I felt characters in both the past and present needed to have their own stories. It turned into a trilogy. :-)

I'll start with a bit of background. I started this about 6 years ago. A friend on a message board, who referred to me as his cybermother at times, would
occasionally ask for a bedtime story. After the first few, I thought I might as well do a serial. The first Whimsical Woods 'chapter' was written, as
the others were, without names and using icons. There was no actual storyline. Everything was made up as I went along and I tried to make things fit and not
contradict earlier...
